our story
Temple Solel (Solel means Pathfinder) was founded by six Jewish families in 2011.
For the first ten years, Temple Solel met in various leased church community rooms. The Temple leadership realized that another move was necessary to 1) be in the center of our community footprint and 2) to a church that both offered the facilities needed and wanted us in a partnering relationship. Partnering on Social Action projects; attending each other’s festivals; and becoming more like family.
Success! We found the welcoming people of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill and moved in just before Rosh Hashanah 2022. As a symbol of their outreach to us, they suggested and we put up a Mezuzah on the doorpost of their Church!
- They envisioned a Reform community where their families could worship together with their friends and neighbors.
- They formed a congregation with a diverse Jewish membership; welcoming:
- younger & older,
- casual & very dedicated attendees;
- singles & couples;
- with & without children;
- interfaith & traditional marriages.

SERVICES
Temple Solel’s services, including High Holy Days, are led by our wonderful Russ Cobe; an experienced lay leader with a degree in religious studies and music from Wesleyan University. According to Russ, “We do each service slightly different interweaving songs and music with a creative approach. I like to play the piano to make it easier for the congregation to chime in.”
Our congregation values relationships, family, and making visitors feel welcome. We are pleased with how quickly new members can become a part of this close-knit congregation and enjoy our havurah ambiance. Our compatibility allows us to be very effective in the community and working with each other.
Throughout the year, we sponsor events, speakers, and guest rabbis. We enjoy hosting The Ruach Band for an annual community Hanukah Celebration. We offer Sisterhood and Brotherhood events and many opportunities to be of service to our community.
Check our online calendar for dates and times and online options. We look forward to seeing you soon!
